Visakhapatnam: With the strife between India and Pakistan rising, social media platforms are getting flooded with misinformation, creating panic among citizens countrywide.

Says V. Aishwarya, a native of Piduguralla in Palnadu district currently working in Jaipur: “We saw reports on social media platforms, from a top news organisation, including one from a top news organisation that explosions have been heard at Jaipur Airport. Previously, the Jaipur Stadium had received bomb threats. I became very scared and returned to Piduguralla.”
Subsequently, she said, Jaipur Airport authorities maintained that there had been no explosions. “I don’t know whom to believe,” Aishwarya remarked.
Rama Laxmi, an accountant with Railways, is deeply concerned about her son Satwik studying in Pathankot. "I have asked my son to come home immediately by whatever means possible, after hearing news about missiles being launched across the Indo-Pak border,” she stated.
Press Information Bureau (PIB)’s Fact Check unit on Saturday debunked a report on social media that a cyberattack by Pakistan has caused 70 per cent of India’s electricity grid to become dysfunctional. In a post on X, the PIB Fact Check said the claim is fake.
This Fact Check Unit (FCU) has been working round the clock ever since the launch of Operation Sindoor on May 7. Among the false claims debunked by the FCU is an image allegedly showing an Indian Air Force jet shot down during Operation Sindoor. The FCU clarified that the image actually dates back to September 2024, showing a MiG-29 fighter jet crash in Rajasthan's Barmer, which is unrelated to the current operations.
Officials debunked another video claiming to show India's counter-attack on Rawalpindi, Pakistan. They said the video is the 2024 footage of Iran firing missiles at Israel.
