NELLORE: AP Municipal Administration minister Dr. Ponguru Narayana on Monday said paying tributes to Amarajeevi Potti Sriramulu at the very place he lived and fought is a matter of great pride.

Speaking after offering floral tributes to Potti Sriramulu’s statue at Juvvaladinne village in Nellore district on the occasion of Amarajeevi’s 73rd death anniversary, the Minister said efforts are underway to develop Juvvaladinne as a prominent tourist destination.

Dr. Narayana, along with local MLA Kavya Krishna Reddy, Waqf Board chairman Abdulla Aziz and district collector Himanshu Shukla, later addressed a gathering at the Potti Sriramulu Memorial Building.

The minister recalled discussions with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on developing Juvvaladinne as a tourist hub. He said 6.8 acres of land has been allocated in the CRDA limits of Amaravati for installation of a 58-foot statue commemorating Potti Sriramulu’s 58-day fast unto death. The works are nearing completion.

He described Amarajeevi as the pioneer of linguistic states in India and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to developing Juvvaladinne.

Waqf Board chairman Aziz said Potti Sriramulu’s sacrifice was for Telugu self-respect. Accordingly, Amarajeevi’s statue in Amaravati will be named the “Statue of Sacrifice.”

MLA Krishna Reddy said the government is taking steps to establish a health centre at Juvvaladinne at a cost of ₹1.90 crore. A Zilla Parishad High School will be set up at a suitable location as per villagers’ request.

Collector Himanshu Shukla said public servants must work with the spirit of sacrifice shown by Potti Sriramulu.

Officials from various departments attended the programme. Later, the minister and other VIPs inspected the Juvvaladinne harbour.

In Nellore, several leaders, cutting across party lines, paid floral tributes to the statue of Amarajeevi Potti Sriramulu at the Atmakur Bus Stand.
