Midhun Reddy’s Arrest Based on Solid Evidence: Home Minister
Anitha says action based on strong evidence; vows law, order, and cyber reforms
Kurnool: Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha has justified the arrest of YSRCP parliamentarian Mithun Reddy in the liquor scam case, saying he was taken into custody based on clear and concrete evidence.
Speaking to the media during her visit to Gudibanda in Sri Sathya Sai district on Monday, she said the court had remanded Mithun Reddy only after verifying the evidence. “Arrests are made only when credible proof exists. If he is innocent, the court will take the appropriate decision,” she said.
The minister also said that investigations were ongoing into other cases related to the Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy family, including forest land encroachment and file burning incidents.
Taking a jibe at the previous YSRCP government, she remarked, “For the sin of believing in the 'one chance' slogan, Andhra Pradesh went back by 20 years.”
She alleged that under Jagan Reddy’s government, widespread irregularities and lawlessness prevailed. “We tore up the menu of collections that defined their rule,” she remarked.
Anitha said that despite YS Jagan Mohan Reddy pressing many buttons, the people responded with a single button that reduced YSRCP to just 11 seats. She accused Jagan Reddy of being a "criminal in the guise of a politician."
The minister announced that the state government was prioritizing law enforcement and transparency. “As part of a state-wide initiative, one lakh CCTV cameras will be installed, and every district will soon have a dedicated cyber crime police station. The chief minister has approved a Cyber Crime PS for the district, she said.
Referring to the growing menace of ganja, Anitha said the government was cracking down hard on cultivation, transport and sale of the drug. “We are attaching the properties of those involved.”
She said the alliance government and the CM were giving adequate focus on Rayalaseema, attracting new industries and ensuring drinking and irrigation water supply through projects like Handri-Neeva. “Solar and defense industries are also in the pipeline for the region.”
