Massive Fire In Cushion, Mattress Factory, Rs 10 Crore Loss

KAKINADA: A cushion and mattress manufacturing unit caught fire at Eluru on Thursday, and all the products in the unit are said to have been reduced to ashes.
Though officially it was not declared, the estimation of loss is nearly `10 crore, it is said. According to sources, the unit is located on the Eluru-Vangayagudem route near the Cancer Hospital. There are seven types of chemicals used for the manufacturing of cushions and mattresses, and it is done under air conditioners. It is said that a short circuit may be one of the reasons for the accident.
On Thursday, the security guard noticed that smoke and flames erupted in a big way and informed the owners. Eluru district fire officer T. Srinivas told the Deccan Chronicle that firefighters from Eluru, Bhimadole, Kaikaluru, and Hanuman Junction rushed to the spot and put out the fire without spreading it to a nearby Kalyana Mandapam and Cancer Hospital. He said that an inquiry to find out the cause of the fire has to be done further.
Eluru police also rushed to the spot and are enquiring about the reasons and investigating the incident.
