NELLORE: In an effort to strengthen law and order and curb criminal activity, Markapuram district police on Thursday conducted large-scale cordon-and-search operations across several towns, seizing over 140 motorcycles.

In Darsi, under the supervision of DSP B. Lakshminarayana, police teams from Darsi, Mundlamuru, Kurichedu and Donakonda carried out surprise checks in Shivraj Nagar, inspecting houses and vehicles. As many as 67 motorcycles without valid documents or number plates were seized, challans were issued, and road safety awareness was provided to motorists.

An anti-drugs rally under the slogan “Drugs Vaddu Bro” was also organised, with participation from local youth, traders and residents, who pledged to stay away from narcotics.

In Markapuram town, DSP U. Nagaraju led similar operations in Estate Colony, resulting in the seizure of 24 undocumented motorcycles, along with awareness programmes on drug abuse.

In Kanigiri, DSP P. Sai Eshwar Yashwant supervised cordon-and-search operations across several localities, during which 50 motorcycles were confiscated. An anti-drugs rally, including a human chain, was organised to urge citizens to reject narcotics.

Police officials said strict action would be taken against those involved in drug-related offences and appealed to the public to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or by dialling 112 or 100.
