Vijayawada:A man suffered severe head injuries after a domestic LPG cylinder exploded in a flat at Patamatalanka in Vijayawada on Tuesday afternoon.
According to police, the fire broke out in the wash area of a flat belonging to ACP Satyanandam, who had recently travelled to the United States with his family.
Preliminary investigation indicated that the compressor of an air-conditioner caught fire, reportedly due to an electrical short-circuit. The flames later spread to one of the two domestic LPG cylinders kept in the wash area, triggering an explosion.
The impact of the blast damaged the parapet wall of the flat, and debris from the wall fell on a man standing below, causing critical head injuries.
