VIJAYAWADA: Rapid advances in uro-oncology and medical technology are transforming cancer treatment, experts observed at the state-level scientific conference, Uro-Oncology Simplified–2026 here on Sunday.
Organised by the Society of Genito-Urinary Surgeons of Andhra Pradesh in association with the Vijayawada association of genito-urinary surgeons, the conference attracted over 200 urologists, surgeons, young doctors and postgraduate students from all the 13 districts. This was the first mid-term conference organised by the society.
The conference focused on the latest developments in the management of prostate, kidney and bladder cancers, with experts discussing evidence-based treatment strategies, complex cancer surgeries, emerging technologies and future directions in patient care.
A highlight was the live telecast of robotic radical prostatectomy and robotic partial nephrectomy procedures from Prashanth Hospitals, offering young urologists practical exposure to advanced robotic surgical techniques.
Organising President Dr AV Krishna Kishore said Vijayawada is emerging as an important centre for academic activities in urology. Scientific convener Dr P Srimannarayana described uro-oncology as one of the fastest-growing specialties and said the programme was designed around case-based discussions, complex surgical analyses and expert interactions.
Organising Secretary Dr K Priyatham said dedicated academic sessions helped young urologists and postgraduate students gain practical insights into managing challenging clinical situations.
Organising treasurer Dr K Dheeraj noted that world-class uro-oncology services, including robotic surgeries, were increasingly available in hospitals across AP, reducing the need for patients to travel to metropolitan cancer centres.
Special sessions covered prostate cancer screening, management of localised and hormone-sensitive prostate cancer, complex kidney cancer surgeries, bladder cancer treatment and the role of immunotherapy. A hands-on workshop on transperineal free-hand prostate biopsy enhanced practical knowledge for the participants.
