Visakhapatnam: The picturesque Madugada Viewpoint in Araku Valley mandal of Alluri Sitarama Raju district turned into a vibrant centre for International Yoga Day celebrations on Saturday, blending wellness with the natural beauty of the region.

District collector T. Nishanthi said the district's youth and students, regarded as the nation's strength, should embrace yoga to help build a healthier society.

The programme began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the Collector, Joint Collector Thirumani Sripooja and ITDA Project Officer Aditya Varma, along with district officials, public representatives and local residents.

Participants, including former Paderu MLA Giddi Eswari, GCC Director Borra Nagaraju and villagers from nearby areas, performed various yoga asanas.

Addressing the gathering, Nishanthi described yoga as a priceless gift of Indian culture and urged people to make it a part of their daily lives rather than confining it to a single-day observance.

She said yoga was not merely a physical exercise but a holistic practice that promotes mental peace, resilience and overall well-being. Even a few minutes of daily yoga could help reduce stress, improve health and boost self-confidence, she added.

Highlighting the theme "Yoga in the Lap of Nature", the Collector encouraged people to combine yoga with the district's rich natural environment to achieve holistic health and well-being. She also urged students and youth to cultivate a lasting interest in yoga.
