Madhav Promises Honour, Dignity For Nomadic, Semi-Nomadic Tribes
All efforts would be made to ensure honour and dignity for nomadic and semi-nomadic communities (Denotified Tribes): Andhra Pradesh BJP chief P.V.N. Madhav
VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh BJP chief P.V.N. Madhav assured that all efforts would be made to ensure honour and dignity for nomadic and semi-nomadic communities (Denotified Tribes). He praised them for sustaining dharma and described them as inheritors of tradition and culture.
Addressing a large gathering of nomadic and semi-nomadic communities from across the state at a meeting for their upliftment and empowerment on Saturday, the BJP chief underscored the need for people to learn about these communities’ traditions and practices, pointing out that many were forgetting their own cultural roots. He said the programme, called Spoorthy (Inspiration), was aimed at empowering them.
Madhav said they would spread awareness about the injustices faced during the British era and highlight that these communities were no longer to be seen as criminals. He assured that NDA partners, including the Telugu Desam and Jana Sena, would support their cause.
Criticising the previous YSRC regime for denying denotified tribal certificates, Madhav noted that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had already directed that NTDNT certificates be issued.
BJP National OBC Morcha president and MP Dr K. Laxman accused past rulers of treating these communities as a mere vote bank while neglecting their welfare. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, himself from the BC community, was committed to their development and equal rights. He criticised Jawaharlal Nehru for ignoring committee recommendations on their welfare and accused Rahul Gandhi of trying to create caste divisions for political gain.
He stressed the need to provide recognition, modern tools, and support for handicrafts, and vowed to work for the creation of a commission to protect their rights.
MPs D. Purandeswari, R. Krishnaiah, Paka Venkata Satyanarayana, MLAs Vishnu Kumar Raju, Parthasarathi, N. Eeswara Rao, Nallamilli Ramakrishna Reddy, and MLC Somu Veerraju were present.
