Tirupati: With Madanapalle scheduled to become a new district headquarters from January 1, 2026, officials are racing against time to identify suitable buildings for all departments. Over the next couple of weeks, the administration is aiming to complete essential arrangements to ensure that the new district can start functioning from Day One.

The new district comprises Madanapalle, Thamballapalle, Piler and Punganur assembly constituencies. Madanapalle had been approved as a new district headquarters last month after years of appeals from residents seeking a unified administrative setup.

To facilitate basic functioning from January 1, the existing Sub-Collector’s office in Madanapalle is expected to become the temporary Collectorate. The recently opened office of the Divisional Level Development Officer may be relocated to the current Sub-Collector’s building.

According to sources, identifying a suitable building for the Superintendent of Police office has emerged as a major challenge. No appropriate option has emerged so far.

Officials are under pressure to shortlist buildings for various offices within a week. Availability of adequate infrastructure in a short time frame remains a key concern.

While Rompicherla mandal of Punganur assembly segment has been included in Madanapalle district, the mandal will remain under Chittoor revenue division, as per the gazette notification for the new district. Rompicherla residents have objected to this arrangement, pointing out that Rompicherla is geographically closer to Piler and should be part of the Piler revenue division.

A significant first event in the new Madanapalle district will be the Republic Day celebrations at the district headquarters. BT College Ground on Bengaluru road is being considered as the ideal venue owing to space available and accessibility.
