Low-Pressure Area May Bring Rain To AP On Dasara Eve
A Low-level cyclonic circulation was marked over the South Andaman Sea and adjoining regions: Skymet
VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra Pradesh is likely to receive rain ahead of Dasara as a low-pressure area is expected to form over the Bay of Bengal and bring widespread showers to the southern peninsula between October 14 and 19, according to private weather website Skymet.
Skymet said a low-level cyclonic circulation was marked over the South Andaman Sea and adjoining regions. It is likely to become more pronounced and extend to the middle and upper levels of the atmosphere, leading to the formation of a low-pressure area.
The system is expected to move across the south-central Bay of Bengal and reach the southwest Bay of Bengal by mid-week, remaining near coastal Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka. It may gain strength as it moves, the website said.
Scattered heavy rainfall is likely over large parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka during the period. Fairly widespread rain and thundershowers are expected along the Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh coasts on October 14 and 15.
The system is likely to move inland on October 16, increasing the spread and intensity of rainfall over interior Tamil Nadu, south interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, Kerala and coastal Karnataka between October 16 and 19. Rainfall may continue beyond this period, though its intensity is expected to ease.
Skymet said the low-pressure area could contribute to the onset of the northeast monsoon over the southern peninsula. However, this would depend on the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon. The transition could see the two monsoon systems withdrawing and advancing almost simultaneously over Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
The weather activity is expected to unfold between October 15 and 20. Skymet said the system’s low-latitude track near the equatorial region meant it might not develop into a storm.
