Lokesh to Lay Foundation for LG’s ₹5,001-crore Plant at Sri City

The ₹5,001-crore plant marks the South Korean giant’s first unit in South India and third in India after Pune and Noida

TIRUPATI: Minister of education and IT, electronics and communications Nara Lokesh will set the foundation stone for LG Electronics’ new manufacturing facility at Sri City on May 8. The ₹5,001-crore plant marks the South Korean giant’s first unit in South India and third in India after Pune and Noida.

District collector Dr S. Venkateswar confirmed the minister’s two-day visit to Tirupati district on May 7 and 8. Lokesh will arrive at Renigunta Airport from Mumbai on the afternoon of May 7 and travel by road to Satyavedu. He will participate in local programmes at V.M.K. Kalyana Mandapam before attending the foundation ceremony at Sri City the next day.

The Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) has allotted 188 acres for the unit. The facility will manufacture refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines, televisions and compressors. Once operational, the plant is expected to create 1,500 direct and nearly 5,000 indirect jobs across Tirupati, Nellore, and nearby districts.
