VIJAYAWADA: Education and IT minister Nara Lokesh on Saturday underlined that values are as important as education. “Life demands many decisions. Choices guided by values alone lead to true success,” he underlined while being the chief guest at the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Don Bosco High School at Mangalagiri. He described Don Bosco as a beacon of love and service. He wanted collective efforts to strengthen the institution.

On the occasion, Lokesh inaugurated a newly established science laboratory and paid floral tributes to the statue of the institution’s founder, Reverend Father Thomas Chinnappa.

He appreciated Don Bosco for being the mother and father of orphans and underprivileged, providing shelter, food and hope to the needy. Quoting Mother Teresa, he said even small acts done with love create a lasting impact. He pointed out that Don Bosco imparts education along with moral values through its 35 schools across the Telugu states.

The minister maintained that there are no shortcuts to achievement, which the Don Bosco institutions amply prove. He expressed hope that the institution will continue its service for centuries. He assured his personal support and government backing to the institution, describing it as a responsibility of the Education department.

Recalling the school’s beginning in 1972 with just 35 students, Lokesh said its name “Prem Nivas” reflected its noble vision of blending learning with compassion. For five decades, the institution has supported persons with disabilities through education, artificial limbs, counselling and rehabilitation.

Referring to the withdrawal of aided status three years ago, the minister assured support to the school.

Those who attended the Golden Jubilee Celebrations included Padmashali Welfare and Development Corporation chairman Nandam Abaddaiah, APMSIDC chairman Chillapalli Srinivasa Rao, TTD Board member Tammisetty Janaki Devi and TDP leader Pothineni Srinivasa Rao.
