Visakhapatnam: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a legal metrology inspector in Srikakulam district for demanding and accepting a substantial bribe from a licensed technician.
T. Sridhar, legal metrology inspector of weights and measures at Palasa in Srikakulam district, was caught red-handed by ACB officials while accepting a bribe of Rs 1,78,000 from complainant N. Satyanarayana, a resident of Kasibugga in Palasa mandal.
According to ACB sources, Satyanarayana works as a licensed technician specialising in the repair of electronic weighing and measuring devices. After inspecting 445 such devices, he was required to submit verification certificates to inspector Sridhar as part of the standard regulatory process.

However, Sridhar allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 400 per device inspected, totalling `1,78,000, before he would accept the verification report and issue the necessary certificates.
Satyanarayana filed a complaint at the Srikakulam ACB office against the inspector. Acting on this complaint, ACB officials registered a case under Crime No. 3/RCT-SKL/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
The ACB then conducted a planned trap operation. On Thursday, when Sridhar was in the process of collecting the demanded bribe amount from the complainant at his office, ACB officials moved in and caught him red-handed with the money.
