Anantapur: A dispute has arisen between the Andhra Pradesh Central University (APCU) near Jantahlur in B.K. Samudram mandal of Anantapur district and a neighbouring landowner on Tuesday over construction of a compound wall opposite the institution’s main gate.
University authorities said the new campus is being developed on the land allotted by the state government that earlier belonged to the Prisons’ department. Academic activities are being conducted from the campus while construction works are in progress.
According to authorities, a neighbouring landowner Rathnamayya, along with his son Yogeshwar and others, allegedly entered the university premises and stopped labourers engaged in construction of the compound wall.
University officials said the land in question had earlier been demarcated by government surveyors in the presence of the area tahsildar. Officials stated that the adjacent landowner had approached revenue officials and university authorities seeking access to his property. Several alternatives have been offered to the landowner.
Despite this, Rathnamayya allegedly trespassed into the university premises and threatened workers, university authorities alleged.
Following the incident, APCU officials approached the Anantapur district administration and informed it about the developments. A formal complaint has also been lodged with the BK Samudram police.
