KURNOOL: Elaborate arrangements are being made for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public meeting at Nannuru in Kurnool district on Thursday. Around three lakh people are expected to attend the event.

The visit marks a significant moment for Rayalaseema, where the last ‘PM visit’ took place 21 years ago -- when Manmohan Singh came there in 2004.

Three helipads have been arranged for the PM and two for the chief minister. To facilitate transportation of people, around 7,500 buses have been enlisted, including 3,070 APSRTC buses and another 150 for the PM’s visit to Srisailam. Some 80 buses have been reserved for police and security personnel.

For vehicle parking, land of 350 acres has been earmarked, which can hold nearly 10,000 vehicles across 11 parking zones.

The education department has declared a holiday for all educational institutions in Kurnool and Nandyal districts on October 15 and 16.

Officials are on their toes. They held coordination meetings with departments like MEPMA, DRDA and Velugu to mobilize participants through self-help groups.

The PM would inaugurate, dedicate or lay the foundation stone for development projects worth around ₹13,430 crore. These projects span sectors including industry, power transmission, roads, railways, defence manufacturing, petroleum and natural gas.

A team of ministers arrived in Kurnool and Nandyal to oversee the arrangements. Police have set up a control room at the venue. The city witnessed heavy traffic on Wednesday, with officials and their vehicles plying around in large numbers.

The authorities have announced a waiving of the toll charges on October 16 to ensure smooth traffic flow on the NH near the venue. Guest houses, hotels and lodges were packed with alliance leaders, guests, and officials on Wednesday.
