FSS3 is the third of the five in the series of fleet support ships being built by the HSL in collaboration with the L&T, highlighting India’s strong public-private partnership in defence.
VISAKHAPATNAM: Vice admiral Rajaram Swaminathan laid the keel for Fleet Support Ship (FSS3) at L&T Shipyard in Kattupalli Port in Tamil Nadu. The vessel is a joint venture between L&T and Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), Visakhapatnam.
Those present included HSL chairman and managing director Commodore (Retired) Hemant Khatri and senior officials from the Indian Navy.
FSS3 is the third of the five in the series of fleet support ships being built by the HSL in collaboration with the L&T, highlighting India’s strong public-private partnership in defence. Notably, all five ships have transitioned into various stages of construction concurrently, less than two years since the contract had been inked, highlighting HSL’s enhanced project execution capability and coordination across multiple shipbuilding sites, a press release from Eastern Naval Command said.
From building small auxiliary vessels to delivering strategic platforms like INS Dhruv and INS Nistar, HSL has made a transformational leap in technology, engineering precision and expertise.
With upgraded infrastructure, including a 300T Goliath crane and refurbished slipway, HSL is firmly positioned to meet future naval needs, including landing platform decks and next-generation platforms.
The HSL CMD expressed gratitude to the Indian Navy for its continued support. He affirmed that the shipyard is rising confidently despite challenges and setting new benchmarks in India’s strategic shipbuilding domain.
