Kurnool: Even as memories of a recent ACBCVR bus accident remain fresh, another bus mishap near Kurnool triggered panic among passengers on Tuesday night. A private Kaveri Travels bus, travelling from Puducherry to Hyderabad, lost control after crossing Kurnool town and rammed into the road divider near the TIDCO housing complex.

After hitting the divider, the bus veered onto the opposite carriageway. Fortunately, no vehicles were approaching from the Hyderabad side at the time, averting a major tragedy. All passengers escaped unhurt, though the incident left them shaken.
Police said the passengers were later shifted to another Kaveri Travels bus following the same route and were safely sent to Hyderabad. During routine vehicle checks at the Nannur toll gate after midnight, officials noticed suspicious behaviour by the driver, who appeared to have washed his face. Preliminary findings suggest that overspeeding may have caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
Kurnool police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. Commenting on the spate of accidents, Superintendent of Police Vikranth Patil said strict drunken driving checks are being carried out at toll gates, along with additional monitoring measures, including checks on drivers’ alertness. He added that poor visibility due to fog may also have contributed to the mishap.
A series of such incidents has raised serious concerns over passenger safety on highways around Kurnool.
