Karnataka Tops All India Sports Meet of RTCs at Vizag
Visakhapatnam: The three-day All India Transport Corporations Sports Meet held in Visakhapatnam concluded on Sunday amid great fanfare and celebration. Teams representing RTCs from across the nation participated in the event hosted by Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC).
APSRTC chairman Konakalla Narayana Rao presided over the closing ceremony attended, among others, by corporation managing director Dwaraka Tirumala Rao and senior officials of the RTC.
The highlights of the event include performances by tribal dancers, a parade by athletes, and a police band display that captivated the audience.
In his address, Narayana Rao praised RTC employees for excelling in sports despite their demanding work schedules. He emphasised on the importance of nurturing talent at regional, national and international levels.
Overall, Karnataka RTC emerged as the champion, with BMTC (Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation) becoming the runner-up. APSRTC secured the third place.
Athletes representing APSRTC secured 15 medals in the competition, including five gold, three silver and seven bronze medals. The standout performances included the men's 100-metre race won by Hemant who got the gold medal. K. Ramesh won the 1,000-metre race walk. N. Aruna Kumari secured the silver medal in the women's 1,000-metre race walk.
