Kakani Joins ‘Save Kaluvoya’ Stir Against its Merger With Tirupati District
The former minister underlined that Kaluvai mandal has deep historical and social ties with Nellore district
Nellore: Former minister and YSRC Nellore district president Dr. Kakani Govardhan Reddy on Monday participated in the “Save Kaluvoya” protest programme, opposing the proposed merger of Kaluvai mandal with Tirupati district.
A large number of Kaluvoya mandal residents turned up for the protest in Kaluvoya, along with Dr Kakani, Zilla Parishad chairperson Anam Arunamma and Venkatagiri constituency YSRC in-charge Nedurumalli Ram Kumar Reddy, who organised the protest.
Addressing the protesters, the former minister accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of going back on his much repeated election promise that the Gudur constituency will remain in Nellore district. He pointed out that the government is now creating a new problem by proposing to shift Kaluvoya mandal to Tirupati district.
Kakani warned that the merger could lead to serious issues related to irrigation and water sharing, particularly affecting major reservoirs, such as Somasila and Kandaleru, and the Podalakuru South Canal. Kaluvoya mandal, he said, plays a key role in supplying irrigation water not only to Sarvepalli constituency but also to farmers in Podalakuru, whose lands extend across Kaluvoya, Rapur and Saidapuram mandals.
The former minister underlined that Kaluvai mandal has deep historical and social ties with Nellore district. He warned that altering district boundaries could create regional tensions.
He maintained that former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had created 26 districts based on public needs and had retained Govardhan Reddy, Rapur and Saidapuram mandals, along with Sarvepalli constituency, in Nellore district after considering local sentiments.
Kakani asserted that YSRC will stand firmly with the Kaluvoya people and will continue the struggle if the state government remains adamant. He congratulated ZPTC member Anil Kumar Reddy, Kaluvoya mandal YSRCP convener Krishna Reddy and leaders, cadres and local residents for making the protest a success.
