The 16-member joint action committee, chaired by the VMRDA commissioner, carried out a comprehensive assessment of on-ground conditions. Officials said a master development plan with a 30-year horizon would be prepared, focusing on safety, sustainability and systematic growth.
Visakhapatnam: The Kailasagiri Development Committee, constituted under the aegis of the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA), conducted its first field-level inspection on Tuesday, marking the start of a long-term plan to upgrade Kailasagiri into a globally competitive tourism destination.
The 16-member joint action committee, chaired by the VMRDA commissioner, carried out a comprehensive assessment of on-ground conditions. Officials said a master development plan with a 30-year horizon would be prepared, focusing on safety, sustainability and systematic growth.
As part of the cultural and spiritual enhancement, the committee proposed the construction of a 55-foot Trishul, inspired by Lord Shiva’s iconography, at an estimated cost of ₹1.5 crore. Designed using modern engineering methods, the structure is expected to strengthen Kailasagiri’s cultural identity and spiritual appeal.
Key discussions during the inspection centred on tourist safety and infrastructure, including new internal roads and merging points, an alternative access road, expansion of parking facilities, improved medical services, fire safety systems, enhanced police patrolling, and stronger emergency response mechanisms. Traffic management and crowd control, especially during weekends and peak tourist seasons, were also reviewed.
To promote environmental sustainability and visitor convenience, plans for free shuttle services and expanded use of battery-operated vehicles were discussed. VMRDA commissioner N. Tej Bharat said proposals also included foothill parking facilities, eco-friendly transport such as e-buses, upgraded canteen facilities, additional tourist attractions, and a toy train project.
The inspection was attended by Visakhapatnam East MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu, VMRDA chairman Pranav Gopal, and senior officials from various departments, highlighting the government’s focus on integrated development and safety at the popular hilltop destination.
