Visakhapatnam: Jana Sena corporator Peethala Murthy Yadav has formally appealed to party chief K. Pawan Kalyan and political affairs committee chairman Nadendla Manohar to secure the deputy mayor position for the party.

In letters to both leaders, he emphasised that securing the deputy mayor post would be "a source of pride for the party" and "a jewel for the alliance’s unity". He noted that party members and supporters across Visakhapatnam are eager to see a Jana Sena representative in the deputy mayor position.

“The citizens of GVMC who have strongly supported the Jana Sena are hoping that their wishes will be fulfilled only through a Jana Sena deputy mayor candidate," he wrote in his appeal.

He highlighted that during previous mayoral elections, the Telugu Desam (TD) had allegedly promised to allocate the deputy mayor position to Jana Sena. He also pointed out that during last year's GVMC standing committee elections, Jana Sena supported TD candidates for all ten positions without seeking any positions for themselves.

According to Murthy Yadav, Jana Sena commands significant political strength in the corporation with 17 votes – comprising three elected corporators, three MLAs, and eleven corporators who joined from other parties. This support, he claimed, was crucial for the alliance's victory in securing the mayor's position.
