Janardhan Inaugurates Overhead Tanks in Banaganapalle
Illuru Kothapeta and Ralla Kothur get drinking water boost under Jal Jeevan Mission
Kurnool: Roads and buildings minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy on Monday inaugurated overhead water tanks at Illuru Kothapeta and Ralla Kothur villages in Banaganapalle mandal constructed under the Centre’s Jal Jeevan Mission.
The tank in Illuru Kothapeta has a capacity of 60,000 litres and was built using Rs 35.60 lakh. The one in Ralla Kothur costs Rs 31.50 lakh and can store 40,000 litres.
Janardhan Reddy said the coalition government under Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is committed to ensuring safe drinking water for every household in the state.
During the programme, women from Bandaru Veedhi and Matamma Gudi Veedhi in Illuru Kothapeta approached the minister and explained that water pipelines in their area were damaged and there was a water shortage for over five years. The minister assured them that the issue would be resolved within a week.
In Ralla Kothur, locals told the minister that they too were not receiving regular water supply. He immediately directed officials to address the issue without delay.
"More overhead tanks will be constructed. Additionally, Rs 500 crore will be spent on laying pipelines from Owk reservoir to Banaganapalle," Janardhan Reddy said.
The minister assured officials that any financial constraint for development works should be brought to his notice. Responding to a request from locals for a community hall in Ralla Kothur, Janardhan Reddy directed officials to prepare proposals using Integrated Tribal Development Agency funds.
The minister said due to falling groundwater levels in some areas, water is currently being supplied through tankers.
