Jana Sena to Pass Resolution Converting Rushikonda Buildings into MICE Facility
Cases are currently pending in the National Green Tribunal, while the Supreme Court has restricted construction to designated areas only.
Visakhapatnam: The Jana Sena has decided to pass a resolution proposing the conversion of the Rushikonda buildings into a MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) facility, following an inspection led by party chief and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan on Friday.
The resolution, which will be presented to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and discussed in the Assembly, aims to transform the unused luxury buildings into a revenue-generating asset for the state government before the Winter Session.
During his inspection before the ‘Senatho Senani’ review meeting, Pawan Kalyan revealed details about the project’s financial mismanagement. The construction, originally estimated at Rs 164 crore, eventually cost Rs 453 crore for just four out of seven planned blocks, nearly four times the initial estimate.
“Rs 453 crore of public money was wasted on just four blocks, the buildings that once generated Rs 7 crore in annual income as green resorts now burden the government with Rs 1.5 crore in electricity bills alone,” Pawan Kalyan said.
The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted severe regulatory violations committed during construction under the previous YSRC government. The project involved unauthorised excavation of 8.48 lakh cubic metres of soil, causing environmental damage to the Rushikonda area.
“All kinds of rules were violated. They have dealt a terrible blow to the environment and even misled the courts,” Pawan Kalyan said.
Cases are currently pending in the National Green Tribunal, while the Supreme Court has restricted construction to designated areas only.
The inspection revealed deteriorating conditions within the luxury structures, with peeling roofs and water leakage throughout the buildings. Despite spending Rs 39 crore on interior decoration alone, the buildings require significant repairs before they can be converted into revenue-generating facilities.
Tourism minister Kandula Durgesh also spoke on the occasion.
This inspection was part of Jana Sena’s three-day comprehensive meetings in Visakhapatnam, where the party leaders are engaging with activists and reviewing various policy matters.
Jana Sena MLA Sundarapu Vijay Kumar told the media that the intention of the Jana Sena resolution is to generate revenue for the government by bringing Rushikonda buildings into use.
