YSR Congress president and former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy directed party leaders to choose candidates who are YSRC loyalists with strong commitment.

He gave the directive at a meeting he held at the party office in Tadepalli with party’s regional coordinators, district presidents, and parliamentary observers on Tuesday.

The meeting discussed at length guidelines to select candidates and how YSRC must prepare for the ensuing polls, while keeping in mind the corporations and municipalities that are reserved for SCs, STs, BCs, and women.

Jagan Mohan Reddy asked party leaders to assess the situation in each area and select winnable candidates. He advised YSRC leaders about selecting candidates who have in their possession caste and no-dues certificates issued by the government.

The former CM cited the case of Shashikala, a former corporator from Visakhapatnam, saying that though she is from the SC community, she had been issued an OC Kapu caste certificate.

He asked the party’s regional coordinators to respond promptly to various developments. He directed constituency and parliamentary observers to remain available locally. He wanted them to question any misuse of official power and bring such matters to the attention of people.
