Jagan Refuses to Vote, Alleges Undemocratic Polling in Pulivendula
YSRC chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy declined to vote in protest over alleged polling irregularities in Pulivendula and demanded repolling at affected booths.
YSR Congress president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy announced on Sunday that he would not exercise his voting right in the ongoing municipal elections, expressing strong protest over the manner in which polling was being conducted in Pulivendula.
Speaking to the media after staging a protest along with YSRC polling agents in Pulivendula, Jagan Reddy said he could not bring himself to vote after witnessing the alleged irregularities in the election process. If he cast his vote, it would create an impression that the entire election process was conducted smoothly and fairly.
Jagan said if the government had done good work for the people, there was no reason why it could not ensure peaceful and transparent elections. He alleged that the ruling party was resorting to undemocratic practices because of the fear of losing the elections.
He said the developments taking place during the polling process were not good for future generations. Democracy would survive only when people came together and fought collectively against such practices.
The former CM demanded repolling not only in Pulivendula but also in every polling station where allegations of booth capturing were made.
Jagan Reddy said the YSRC would fight against the alleged electoral irregularities through legal means and approach the Supreme Court seeking justice. He reiterated that the election process should be fair and transparent and that voters should be allowed to exercise their franchise without fear or obstruction.
