Incessant Rains Affect Normal Life in North Andhra

Visakhapatnam: Incessant rains affected normal life in Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, Anakapalli and ASR districts in north Andhra Pradesh during the last 24 hours.

Visakhapatnam city received 5.5 cm rainfall that caused waterlogging in the Old Town areas of Velampeta and Poorna Market. Many roads got submerged in Srikakulam town, which recorded 6 cm of rain.

Reports said a service road adjacent to National Highway-16 in Narasannapeta in Srikakulam district, and Gottipalli Road between Narsasnnapeta and Jalumuru got flooded, affecting traffic movement

Amadalavalasa, Pathapatnam and Etcherla received continuous rains. Paddy fields in these areas went under sheets of flood water. Flood water overflowed on roads and culverts in Anakapalli and ASR districts, which received 6 cm rainfall.

IMD Amaravati said the low-pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast persisted on Tuesday at 8:30 am, with the associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting south-westwards with height. It is likely to move west north-westwards and become more marked during the next two days.

Thunderstorms, accompanied with lightning, are likely over the same area as well as south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema. Strong winds with speeds of 40–50 kmph are likely at isolated places over north and south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam.

On August 28, heavy rain is likely at isolated places over north coastal AP and Yanam. Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning are likely over north and south coastal AP and Yanam. Strong winds with speeds of 40–50 kmph are likely at isolated places in north and south coastal AP and Yanam.

From August 29 onwards, the state will experience thunderstorms with lightning and speedy winds.

During the last 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on Tuesday, Kalingapatnam (Srikakulam) received the highest rainfall of 10.4 cm, followed by Pusapatirega (Vizianagaram) 6.8 cm, Pathapatnam (Srikakulam) 6.2 cm, and Tekkali (Srikakulam) and Bheemunipatnam (Visakhapatnam) 5.6 cm each.
