Incessant Rain Hits Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam: Incessant rain has been lashing Visakhapatnam City and its surroundings since Saturday evening due to a low pressure area that has formed over west central Bay of Bengal.
All the low-lying areas of old town, part of beach road, Poorna Market and other areas were inundated, forcing people to stay indoors.
However, the rains gave a relief from the sweltering heat.
Data from the IMD showed that between Saturday morning and Sunday morning, Bheemunipatnam (Bheemili) in the city recorded 4 cm of rainfall and Vizag city 5 cm. The Saturday rainfall has brought down the overall monsoon rain deficit in Vizag from 31 per cent on August 16 to 21 per cent on August 17 in 24 hours.
On Sunday, Waltair station in Vizag city recorded 7.7 cm rainfall, which will futher bring down the deficit rainfall in the city on Monday.
Between June 1 and August 17 morning, Visakhapatnam recorded average rainfall of 260.5 mm as against the normal average rainfall of 331.5 mm which translated to 21 per cent shortfall.
Meanwhile the GVMC authorities have geared up to meet any situation arising out of stormwater overflowing on roads, uproot of trees and electricity poles.
