IIT Madras Signs Pact to Provide Technical Support for Uppada Coastal Protection Wall
The district administration is making arrangements to begin the works from November.
Vijayawada:The Andhra Pradesh government will construct a coastal protection wall at Uppada in Kakinada district at an estimated cost of Rs 323 crore to protect the coastal region from erosion.
IIT Madras signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan at his camp office in Mangalagiri, Guntur district, on Wednesday to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and provide technical supervision during construction of the protection wall.
The project will cover the Uppada area in the Pithapuram Assembly constituency. Construction will be taken up with approval from the National Disaster Management Fund, with the State Disaster Management Authority serving as the nodal agency and the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board as the executing agency.
IIT Madras experts will conduct a comprehensive study of the severity of coastal erosion, sea currents, wave action and other related factors while preparing the design for the coastal protection structures.
