VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh EAGLE IGP Aake Ravi Krishna on Friday urged students to take up sports and stay away from drugs, saying discipline acquired through sports helps build a healthy and responsible life.

Addressing the Taekwondo Medal Presentation Ceremony at TJPS College in Guntur, he presented medals and certificates to 49 students who excelled in taekwondo and commended the college for promoting sports, particularly among girls.

Recalling his tenure as Guntur superintendent of police, Ravi Krishna said martial arts training had been encouraged to help girls become more confident and capable of protecting themselves.

Highlighting the state's anti-drug initiatives, including Palle Bata Lo EAGLE, Operation Chaitanyam and EAGLE Clubs in educational institutions, he said students were being made aware of the dangers of drug abuse and the stringent provisions of the NDPS Act.

Referring to cases of youngsters whose lives had been ruined by drugs, he urged students to choose good company and firmly say "No" to drugs and other illegal activities.

During the programme, an NSS brochure on World Nature Conservation Day was released. College secretary K.V. Brahmam appreciated EAGLE's awareness campaigns, while taekwondo coach Chaitanya sought greater support for talented sportspersons.

The function was attended by parents, faculty members, EAGLE officials and the college management.
