IFR: Fishing Banned in RK Beach Area
He said there would not be much impact on the ban, as they can fish beyond Kailasagiri near the Bheemili area and Anakapalli
Visakhapatnam: The district fisheries department temporarily suspended the fishing activities from February 14 to February 25 in connection with the International Fleet Review (IFR) and MILAN exercises beginning February 17 and continuing till February 25.
“We have temporarily banned fishing from Kailasagiri to the fishing harbour and 8.5 km deep into the ocean during these 11 days,’’ joint director of fisheries P. Lasmana Rao told this correspondent.
He said there would not be much impact on the ban, as they can fish beyond Kailasagiri near the Bheemili area and Anakapalli.
Three awareness camps have been organised by the fisheries department in association with the Indian Navy and marine police, and the fishermen announced that they would cooperate with the authorities in complying with the ban orders.
Some of the mechanised boats will be hired by the navy for carrying passengers from the ships anchored in the sea and for garbage clearance in the sea, the joint director said.
There are about 680 mechanised boats and and 550 other motorised boats operating from the Visakhapatnam Fishing Harbour.
