ICG flags off bike rallies for its February 1 Raising Day
Visakhapatnam: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has flagged off two bike rallies in connection with its Raising Day on February 1.
ICG additional director general Donny Michael green signaled the rally from Visakhapatnam to Chennai on Tuesday. The other rally has started from Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu.
Both the rallies will terminate at the Marina Beach in Chennai on February 1.
The bike rallies are to educate people en route about India's maritime heritage and how the Coast Guard force is safeguarding the country’s maritime interests. ICG personnel riding the bikes will hold community interaction programmes at fishing hamlets on the way to educate them about various aspects of their own safety at sea, apart from importance of road safety, responsible driving, and promoting sustainable and eco-friendly practices.
The two rallies will cover a total distance of approximately 1,400 km. Total 49 motorcyclists are participating in the rally. 24 of them set off from the ICGS Visakhapatnam. They will cover 850 km connecting the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh.
The motorcyclists will halt at Coast Guard stations in Kakinada, Krishnapatnam and Nizampatnam.
