Hostels Face Notices, Fine for Civic Violations in Vijayawada
VMC inspects hostels in Vijayawada, finds sanitation lapses and unlicensed operations, issues notices and fines for civic violations.
The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has stepped up inspections of hostels across the city to check sanitation, waste management and compliance with commercial trade licensing norms.
Acting on the directions of VMC commissioner H.M. Dhyanachandra, officials conducted special inspections at hostels in Suryaraopet under Division 23 on Wednesday and found sanitation deficiencies in two hostels.
Officials found that toilets were not being maintained hygienically at one hostel, while kitchen sanitation standards were not being followed at another. Notices were issued to the managements, directing them to maintain toilets, kitchens and surrounding areas in a clean and hygienic condition.
In another hostel, officials found single-use curry pouches being used and imposed a ₹2,000 fine. They warned hostel operators against using single-use plastic items and cautioned that stricter action would be taken for repeated violations.
The inspection team also found two other hostels operating without the required D&O trade licences. Notices were served on their managements, directing them to obtain the licences as per the rules.
Dhyanachandra urged hostel operators to adhere to sanitation standards, avoid single-use plastic and obtain mandatory trade licences. He said inspections would continue across the city and action would be taken against establishments violating municipal regulations.
Sanitary supervisor Saleem Ahmed and sanitation staff participated in the inspection.
