KADAPA: A home guard attached to the police department was arrested along with another person in a ganja smuggling case in Kadapa district, police said on Tuesday.

DSP B. Balaswamy Reddy said police seized two kilograms of ganja during raids conducted under Chinna Chowk police station limits as part of a special drive against narcotics trafficking.

The accused were identified as Katigandla Ramesh Babu, a resident of Prakash Nagar and a home guard posted at the Command Control Centre, and Chilakala Chanbasha,37, of Chintakomma Dinne mandal.

According to the investigation, Ramesh Babu allegedly procured ganja from Enuguguda village near the Odisha border through a supplier identified as Nagesh and transported it to Kadapa for sale. Police suspect the involvement of additional persons in the illegal network.

Chinna Chowk circle inspector B. Ramakrishna Reddy said efforts are underway to identify other links in the supply chain. A case was registered, and both accused have been remanded to judicial custody. Further investigation was in progress.
