Visakhapatnam: Jana Jagarana Samithi-led Hindu organisations staged a dharna in front of the International Students Hostel at Andhra University in Visakhapatnam on Sunday, demanding that the Bangladesh students vacate the hostel and return to their country, as several Hindu monks have been attacked or kidnapped there.

Jana Jagarana Samithi convener Vasu told this correspondent that he, along with a few volunteers, approached the chief warden, Prof Yugandar, and asked him to send the Bangladesh students out. While more volunteers were gathering, the Three Town Police rushed to the campus and dispersed the volunteers. The police instructed them to stage the dharna at the Gandhi statue at RTC Complex, rather than on the campus.
There are about 100 students from Bangladesh, including 60 Muslim minorities and 30 women, said the Dean of International Students Affairs and Registrar of Andhra University, Prof E Dhanunjay Rao.
Prof Rao stated that he would enhance security at all six international hostels with AU security personnel and had requested the commissioner of police to deploy additional staff.
