Heavy Rains Lash Rayalaseema, Coastal AP

Visakhapatnam: Parts of Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP) are witnessing heavy rainfall, with the IMD issuing a yellow alert for Tuesday and Wednesday.

The IMD forecast that a low-pressure area is likely to form over north-west and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal around August 13 and the weather system will trigger heavy rainfall in parts of Rayalaseema and CAP.

The weather agency forecast that parts of Kurnool, Nandyal, Prakasam, Palnadu, Guntur, NTR, Krishna, West Godavari, East Godavari, Konaseema and ASR districts would witness heavy rains on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, parts of the Nandyal, Prakasam, Palnadu, Bapatla, Guntur, Krishna, West Godavari and Eluru will experience heavy to very heavy rains while Kurnool, YSR Kadapa, Nellore, Tirupati, East Godavari, Kakinada, Konaseema, Anakapalle and ASR districts will experience heavy rains.

For Thursday, the weather agency issued orange alert (heavy to very heavy rains) for Nandyal, Kurnool, Prakasam, Palnadu, NTR, West Godavari and Eluru districts and issued yellow alert for Anantapur, YSR Kadapa, Bapatla, Guntur, Krishna, East Godavari, Kakinada, Konaseema and Eluru districts.

Srisailam receives steady inflows

Kurnool: Heavy inflows continue into the Srisailam reservoir following rains in the upper catchment areas. By 6:30 pm on Monday, the reservoir was receiving 1,52,458 cusecs of water while officials were releasing 1,01,577 cusecs downstream. The storage level stood at 197.91 tmc ft, against its full capacity of 215 tmc ft.

Similarly, the Sunkesula reservoir has been receiving steady inflows of around 70,000 cusecs. To regulate levels, officials are releasing 69,324 cusecs downstream towards the Srisailam reservoir. Its current storage is 1.07 tmc ft, compared to the full capacity of 1.20 tmc ft.
