Visakhapatnam: Heavy rains lashed parts of the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh, while coastal AP received light-to-moderate rains during the last 24 hours.

According to IMD, the Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into some parts of southeast Arabian Sea, Maldives and Comorin area and South Bay of Bengal, Andaman Islands and Andaman Sea on Thursday.
Anantapur received the highest rainfall of 17 cm, followed by Raptadu (Anantapur district) 14 cm, Dharmavaram (Sri Satya Sai) 7 cm, Kalyandurg (Anantapur), Kamalapuram and Proddatur (YSR Kadapa), and Atmakur and Rudravaram (Nandyal) 5 cm each. Many parts of Rayalaseema received 1–4 cm rainfall.
In the coastal region, Eluru and Parvathipuram received 5 cm rainfall each, followed by 4 cm rainfall each in Balijipeta (Manyam district), Pathapatnam (Srikakulam) and Tadepalligudem (West Godavari). Many parts of the north coastal Andhra Pradesh experienced rainfall from 1–2 cm.
The IMD mentioned that isolated parts of the north coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema will experience heavy rain on Friday (May 16). Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning are likely at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam and Rayalaseema. Gusty winds with speeds of 50–60 kmph are likely at isolated places over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema. On Thursday six locations in the state recorded temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius, the hottest being Jangamaheswarapuram at 41 degrees Celsius, followed by Amaravati (40.8°C), Tirupati (40.6°C), Nandigama (40.1°C), and Ongole and Nellore40°C each.
