Heavy Rains Forecast for CAP, Rayalaseema

Visakhapatnam: IMD Andhra Pradesh has forecast heavy rain for coastal AP and Rayalaseema regions till May 20.

Gusty winds with speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph are also likely over the same regions.

Private weather website Skymet said the south peninsula was currently under the influence of cyclonic circulations -one hovering over north interior Karnataka and the other spinning over the north coastal Tamil Nadu.

Another upper air cyclonic circulation over coastal AP, which now lay over west central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north coastal AP at 1.5km above mean sea level.

The Skymet report said, “Under the influence of these systems, Telangana and north coastal Andhra Pradesh are bracing for heavy to very heavy rainfall during the next couple of days.”

IMD said, “Conditions are favorable for further advancement of southwest monsoon over some more parts of south Arabian Sea, Maldives and Comorin area; south Bay of Bengal, remaining parts of Andaman Islands and Andaman Sea and some parts of central Bay of Bengal during next two to three days.”

“During the last 24 hours, Guntur received the highest rainfall of 10.03cm, Bapatla 9.5cm, Amalapuram 8.8cm, and Gudivada 8.2cm.

The rainfall brought down the temperature in the state. In some places, it fell by 04 degrees C. The state recorded below 40 degrees on Friday and would likely continue with the same temperature till May 20.”
