Vijayawada: AP minister for health has ordered stoppage of gratuity and pension payment to the retired district medical and health officer (DMHO) from Kurnool, following conviction from an ACB court on charges of graft. State health minister Satya Kumar Yadav while referring to the Andhra Pradesh Revised Pension Rules, 1980, said that those who were convicted on charges of graft would not be paid monthly pension and gratuity.
In 2017, the then Kurnool DMHO demanded a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a doctor for the renewal of licence to continue to run a private hospital and scanning centre. He was caught by the ACB red-handed while accepting the bribe money. A case was instituted and the probe was ordered. The probe findings confirmed his complicity in the crime and convicted him for one year rigorous imprisonment. A fine of Rs 10,000 was also slapped on the former medical officer.
The then DMHO had retired from service in 2020 and he was supposed to get a monthly pension of nearly Rs one lakh and a gratuity of Rs 20 lakh as per the superannuation norms at the age of 62 years. But as per the minister’s directive, he would not be paid both pension and gratuity.
