Vijayawada:The Andhra Pradesh High Court has directed the state election commission to allow filing of nomination papers by contestants for local body polls in the district collector’s office or in the office of the district election officer.

On Thursday, a single-judge bench of Justice Mandava Kiranmayee heard the petition filed by the YSR Congress general secretary Lella Appireddy seeking a direction to the SEC to allow filing of nomination papers in the collectorate in case of any trouble in filing nomination papers locally.

The court pronounced the verdict by advising the SEC to allow this provided that a requisition is submitted accordingly. Action must be taken on such requisition within three days.

The YSR Congress party filed another petition seeking a direction to the police to give details of cases booked in the entire state pertaining to the nominees as they were supposed to submit such details to the election authorities. The court would consider this plea on Friday.
