TIRUPATI: The annual Hanuman Jayanti festival was observed with devotion at Tirumala on Thursday. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) organised special pujas at various Anjaneya Swamy temples across the hill shrine.

At the Bedi Anjaneya Swamy temple, located in front of the Srivari temple, priests performed Panchamrithabhishekam using milk, curd, honey, coconut water, and sandal paste. This was followed by Archana, Harathi, and Naivedyam. TTD chairman B.R. Naidu, additional executive officer Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary, and deputy EO M. Lokanatham were present.

The Bedi Anjaneya Swamy temple is unique, as it features a deity of Lord Hanuman with handcuffs. As per legend, Hanuman’s mother, Anjana Devi, tied him with handcuffs here and asked him to remain until she returned, a promise that was never fulfilled. The deity thus appears bound, giving the temple its name.

Special pujas were also conducted at the Konerugattu Anjaneya Swamy temple, located opposite the Bhuvaraha Swamy temple. In the evening, rituals and Asthanam were held at the statue of Sri Prasanna Anjaneya Swamy at the 7th Mile on the Down Ghat road, accompanied by Vedic chants, Nadaswaram, and Dolu performances. Prasadam was distributed to devotees following the rituals.

On the occasion, the TTD chairman offered Pattu Vastrams to the Japali Anjaneya Swamy at Japali Theertham. Speaking to the media, he said this tradition has been followed for many years as part of the Hanuman Jayanti celebrations.

Apart from this, Hanuman Jayanti was celebrated at various temples under the TTD in Tirupati. Special pujas and Abhishekams were performed at the Yeduru Anjaneya Swamy temple near Sri Govindaraja Swamy temple, the Matha Anjaneya Swamy temple on Gandhi Road, Abhaya Anjaneya Swamy temple near Old Huzur Office, Bhakta Anjaneya Swamy temple near Alipiri Sripada Mandapam, and at the Abhaya Hasta Anjaneya Swamy temple within the Sri Kapileswara Swamy temple complex. Prasadam was distributed to devotees at all locations.
