GVMC’s SHE Teams Inspect 76 Food Outlets, Collect ₹68,600 In fines

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Sanitation and Health Enforcement (SHE) teams of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) launched a citywide food safety drive under the civic body’s “Eat Right Campaign.”
As part of this initiative, 16 SHE teams, two per zone, inspected food establishments across the city’s eight zones on Wednesday. They visited hotels, restaurants, bakeries and street food stalls to check food quality, hygiene standards and use of banned plastic items.
The teams carried out 76 inspections, resulting in 71 notices being issued and fines amounting to ₹68,600 collected from 50 outlets.
Zone-wise inspection and penalty details are as follows: Zone 1 – 8 inspections, 3 violations, fines ₹21,000. Zone 2 – 11 inspections, had 10 violations, fines ₹10,000. Zone 3 – 11 inspections, 5 violations, fines ₹21,000. Zone 4 – 10 inspections, 10 violations, fines ₹11,000. Zone 5 – 11 inspections, 3 violations, fines ₹4,000. Zone 6 – 7 inspections, 6 violations, fines ₹7,800. Zone 7 – 6 inspections, 3 violations, fines ₹1,300. Zone 8 – 12 inspections, 10 violations, fines ₹11,000.
GVMC commissioner Ketan Garg said strict action will be being taken against establishments that fail to meet food safety norms. He underlined that food vendors must prioritise public health. Establishments found selling adulterated food or using banned plastics will face strict penalties, including shutdowns.
