GVMC Clears 33 Fallen Trees, Steps Up Rain Emergency Response

VISAKHAPATNAM: The GVMC has stepped up emergency preparedness amid heavy rains triggered by the cyclonic weather system, with officials directed to remain on high alert and respond to rain-related emergencies.
District collector and the civic body’s special officer Abhishikth Kishore and corporation commissioner Ketan Garg reviewed the situation and directed all departments to take precautionary measures.
As of 5pm on Wednesday, GVMC had received 43 complaints across the city and resolved 41. Of the 36 reported incidents of fallen trees, 33 trees had been cleared, while work was continuing at the remaining three locations. Officials also claimed that they have addressed all complaints related to water stagnation and overflowing drains.

The collector and commissioner, accompanied by North constituency MLA Vishnu Kumar Raju, inspected a landslide-prone area at Kasturi Nagar in Kailasapuram. They directed officials to closely monitor vulnerable hill slopes and low-lying areas.’
As a precaution, officials shifted eight families to safer locations and made arrangements to accommodate nearly 100 people in designated community halls if required.
The municipal corporation has constituted 98 field teams. The City Operations Centre and zonal control rooms are operating round the clock to monitor complaints and coordinate response efforts.
The authorities have identified 56 relief centres in vulnerable areas. Residents of low-lying, flood-prone and hill-slope localities have been advised to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel and move to relief centres when instructed by officials.
