Guntur To Host SARAS 3-15 Jan At Green Leaf Tobacco Threshold

VIJAYAWADA: Extensive arrangements are under way for the SARAS (Sale of Articles of Rural Artisans Society) exhibition, aimed at promoting rural entrepreneurship and women-led livelihoods. The exhibition will be held from January 3 to January 15 at the Green Leaf Tobacco Threshold premises near the Manipuram Bridge on Kakani Road in Guntur.

Around 600 women from self-help groups (SHGs) from Andhra Pradesh and several other States will participate in the large-scale event. Nearly 250 stalls will be set up, offering a wide range of products, including handlooms, handicrafts, sarees, shawls, carpets, bed sheets, and bamboo, metal and glass artefacts. Traditional and organic food items, ornaments, home décor products and other local produce will also be on display.

The exhibition is being organised by the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) in collaboration with the Guntur District Rural Development Agency. The initiative seeks to provide improved market access for SHG products, enhance incomes and strengthen sustainable livelihoods for rural women.

Guntur district collector A Thameem Ansariya has directed officials to ensure the smooth conduct of SARAS Exhibition 2026 through coordinated planning. She said Guntur was chosen as the venue due to higher public turnout during the festive season, good transport connectivity and strong marketing potential.

The collector instructed municipal corporation officials to ensure sanitation and basic infrastructure at the venue. She also called for cultural programmes to be organised every evening to create a festive atmosphere. DRDA and MEPMA officials have been asked to arrange suitable accommodation for SHG members arriving from within the State and outside. Special stalls showcasing the district’s renowned products will also be set up, with all departments directed to work collectively for the event’s success.
