VIJAYAWADA: Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) commissioner K. Mayur Ashok has asserted that all constructions in the city must strictly comply with prescribed building regulations and warned of stringent action against violations.

The commissioner conducted a field inspection on Saturday at RTC Colony in Guntur, where he examined a building under construction that had obtained permission through the Development Permission Management System (DPMS). He later issued clear instructions to town planning officials to ensure strict adherence to sanctioned plans.

Mayur Ashok said that apart from mandatory inspections of DPMS-approved buildings with a built-up area exceeding 500 square metres, the civic body would also conduct random and surprise inspections of other constructions. He directed town planning officials to monitor works at every stage and ensure compliance with all approvals and conditions.

Stressing accountability, the commissioner said officials should not stop at issuing notices but must take firm action against deviations. He clarified that no proposal would be granted “deemed approval” and that all applications must be scrutinised within 15 working days, with deficiencies promptly communicated for rectification.

He underlined that payment of fees, provision of open spaces, setbacks and greenery must strictly conform to approved plans, holding planning secretaries and Town Planning Supervisors responsible for enforcement.

With the government extending the Land Regularisation Scheme (LRS) deadline, he instructed the City Planner to create awareness among licensed technical persons and builders, and to clearly explain post-deadline action against unauthorised layouts and constructions.

Officials from the police, public health, engineering and town planning departments, along with secretariat staff, were present.
