Krishna District: Gudivada One Town Police and Excise officials raided a late-night birthday celebration on Wednesday, which was reportedly organised for YSRCP youth leader Merugumala Kali, a close aide of former minister Kodali Nani, and seized liquor from there.

According to police, around 100 people attended the party held on the upper floor of a building at Gudivada’s Teachers Colony. They allegedly raised slogans in support of Kodali Nani while holding his photograph. Police said YSRCP cadre and some rowdy-sheeters were among those present at the party.

Residents who were disturbed by the late-night commotion lodged a complaint with the police. Following the complaint, police reached the spot and raided the gathering. Officials reportedly found a large quantity of liquor bottles at the venue, including foreign liquor.

Excise officials seized the liquor bottles after finding that the gathering was allegedly conducted without the required excise permission. A case has been registered over alleged violations of excise regulations, and further investigation is underway.

Police also said that Merugumala Kali already has a rowdy sheet registered against him. He was earlier arrested in a 2022 case where he and his followers attacked the TDP office here.
