VIJAYAWADA: Chief minister and Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday directed leaders of the three-party alliance to undertake a 45-day door-to-door public outreach campaign from Monday to highlight the welfare and development initiatives of the government.
Addressing party leaders and public representatives through a teleconference, Naidu noted that the alliance had achieved a 94 per cent strike rate with 57 per cent of the popular vote. He attributed the YSR Congress government's dramatic fall from 151 assembly seats to just 11 to its own “wrong policies and governance failures.”
The chief minister said the government was now delivering people-centric governance by taking decisions based on public opinion and welfare priorities.
With local body elections on the horizon, Naidu called upon every party leader to work for the victory of the alliance candidates across constituencies. He instructed booth conveners, party committees and elected representatives to discharge their responsibilities with commitment, maintain close contact with party workers and the public, and work with enthusiasm rather than compulsion.
"We need leaders, not followers," Naidu said, urging party functionaries to develop leadership qualities, resolve public grievances and earn people's confidence.
He asked them to visit every household, just as they had done during the election campaign, and explain how the coalition government was fulfilling its promises and implementing welfare schemes. Leaders should also clarify any doubts raised by the public regarding government programmes, he added.
The chief minister directed ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs and party cadres to actively participate in the outreach programme. He cautioned leaders against complacency and advised them to avoid actions that could alienate the public.
Naidu also asked party workers to publicise the government's initiatives for youth welfare and explain how, according to the coalition, the policies of the "axe party" had adversely affected young people. He stressed that public support could not be won through money alone but by remaining accessible to the people and exposing the opposition's policies.
Alleging that the opposition was attempting to create divisions in society, Naidu said such efforts could be effectively countered through continuous engagement with the public. He urged everyone, from senior leaders to grassroots workers, to stay connected with the people.
TD state president and MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao also called upon party leaders and cadre to take the government's development and welfare achievements directly to the people. The campaign would continue uninterrupted for 45 days. Party workers should explain the implementation of the Super-6 promises and highlight the benefits extended to women, farmers, youth and students, he said.
Srinivasa Rao further instructed party workers to record public grievances and suggestions during their visits and ensure that they are taken up with both the party and the government for appropriate action.
