Girls’ Education Drives Nation’s Growth: Odisha Governor
The Governor said a gurukulam was not just an educational institution but a way of life that nurtures discipline, character and self-confidence
VIJAYAWADA: Odisha Governor Kambhampati Haribabu on Sunday said girls’ education is the cornerstone of social transformation and national development.
Inaugurating the newly constructed building of the Sister Nivedita Gurukulam at Unguturu in Krishna district and attending its second anniversary celebrations as chief guest, the Governor said a gurukulam was not just an educational institution but a way of life that nurtures discipline, character and self-confidence.
He said institutions dedicated to girls’ education act as powerful agents of social change, adding that educating a girl empowers an entire family and, in turn, the nation. He praised the gurukulam for its exclusive focus on educating girls.
Paying tribute to Sister Nivedita, Haribabu described her as a visionary who devoted her life to women’s empowerment through education. He said true national progress was possible only when educated women grew with confidence while remaining rooted in Indian culture.
The Governor also appreciated the institution for blending traditional values with modern education, and said students trained in music, yoga, meditation and Vedic chanting would become cultural ambassadors of the country.
While noting the rising role of women in all fields, he expressed concern over lower literacy among Scheduled Caste and tribal girls, especially in Odisha, and called for focused efforts to uplift them. Referring to the National Education Policy 2020, he urged institutions to nurture job creators, not job seekers.
Students presented cultural and yoga performances on the occasion.
