Alluri Sitaramaraju: Tension prevailed in Andhra Pradesh’s Alluri Sitaramaraju district after an alleged interstate ganja smuggling gang attacked police personnel during a vehicle check, prompting police to open fire in the air on Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred in the early hours of the day near Lothugedda under the Annavaram police station limits in Chintapalli mandal. Acting on prior information, police had set up checks when they intercepted a car suspected to be transporting ganja.
During the inspection, the occupants of the vehicle reportedly turned aggressive, caught hold of a head constable, and began pelting stones at the police team. In response, police fired warning shots in the air to disperse the attackers.
