VISAKHAPATNAM: A fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal around July 24, bringing a revival of monsoon activity over parts of the country, according to private weather forecaster Skymet.

The system is expected to revive monsoon rainfall across eastern, central and northern India, helping reduce the rainfall deficit recorded in several regions during mid-July after a weak phase of the monsoon.

The low-pressure area is also expected to bring widespread rainfall to North Coastal Andhra Pradesh. After days of hot and humid weather, the system is likely to improve rainfall activity across the region.

Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam districts are expected to receive widespread rain within three days of the formation of the low-pressure area, sources said.

Senior scientist at the IMD, Amaravati, Dr S. Karunasagar, said the existing low-pressure area over north Odisha and adjoining Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal was bringing rain to north Andhra, coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema, resulting in a drop in temperatures.

"There is no heatwave at present," Karunasagar said.

During the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Friday, Bapatla recorded 3.6 cm of rainfall, followed by Sri Sathya Sai district with 3 cm.
